The topic of the project "Cross-Flow Hydro Turbines for Pico Renewable Energy Systems" (PICOTURB) is the development of new energy efficient technical solutions that can promote production of electrical energy from local renewable resources, in accordance to the Directive 2009/28/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council.
 
In order to extend the domain of energy efficient hydraulic turbines to very low power rates, the goal of PICOTURB project is to develop original solutions through research activities that focus on the following specific objectives: :
  • OB1. Development of innovative conceptual models for a better control of the flow through the cross-flow turbines, in order to improve the performance;
  • OB2. Development, design, construction and experimental tests of a prototype of pico-turbine for low heads;
  • OB3. Development, design, construction and experimental tests of an improved type of pico-turbine with horizontal nozzle.
The research to be developed within the project will be conducted by a consortium composed of:
  • the Fluid Mechanics, Hydraulic and Pneumatic Machines Department from Technical University "Gheorghe Asachi" of Iasi;
  • the Department of Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering Hydraulic Machinery from the Politehnica University of Bucharest and
  • the industrial partner specialized in the design, production and sales of hydro-mechanical equipment, SC CUSBAC S.A. Bacau.
